RETAIL & FUNDRAISING MANAGER
FUNCTION:
The Retail & Fundraising Manager is a newly formed position within the
Irish Deaf Society and will have a primary responsibility to manage
the retail operation and formulate and implement a growth strategy.
The role will have a secondary responsibility to manage fundraising
activity, events and initiatives.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The duties of the Retail & Fundraising Manager incorporate the
following areas of responsibilities:
_RETAIL - NATIONAL RETAIL STRATEGY AND POLICY:_
Formulate a national retail strategic plan to include:
* Maximising the income from the shops operation through driving
sales and minimising operating costs.
* Creating a framework of retail standards, policies and procedures.
* A sales and costs analysis of all charity retail activities.
* Extend the existing shop chain taking account of location,
profitability, gaps in the market.
* Best practice in relation to trading and marketing in the charity
sector.
* Formulate an implementation plan for this strategy and policy
plan.
* Set project milestones and financial targets.
* Develop a fundraising team.
_RETAIL - OPERATIONS:_
* Manage the charity shops and ensure the profitability of each
outlet to agreed targets.
* Set standards for layout, display and visual merchandising.
* Set branding guidelines in line with organisational branding
standards.
* Set standards for effective stock management systems including
stock sourcing, collection, sorting and pricing.
* Ensure all retail activities operate within Irish law and best
practice taking account of health and safety, data protection, ICSA
Code of Charity Retailing etc.
_RETAIL & FUNDRAISING - PEOPLE MANAGEMENT:_
* Responsible for the day-to-day management of the retail /
fundraising staff.
* Responsible for promoting team building, open and clear
communications, co-operation and appropriate networks of support for
staff.
* Responsible for the recruitment and selection of retail /
fundraising staff.
* Management of fundraising volunteers.
* Responsible for workforce planning and development, ensuring there
are adequate numbers and required mix of staff and volunteers within
the retail / fundraising team.
* Ensure all volunteer management practices adhere to organisational
policy and are in line with charity retail best practice.
_FUNDRAISING:_
* Management and strategic development of raffle and regular giving
campaigns.
* Management of ad-hoc volunteer led fundraising activities.
* Development of routine fundraising activities such as bucket
collections, church collections.
* Respond to CSR opportunities and engagement with
business/corporate sector.

LOCATION:
This position will be based in the Irish Deaf Society Head Office,
Thomas Mahon Building, Deaf Village Ireland, Ratoath Road, Dublin 7.
This is a national role so it is envisaged that some of the working
week will be based in the field. This role is flexible for a blend of
office and remote working depending on operational requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
_ESSENTIAL:_
* Professional management qualification or extensive management
experience.
* Proven ability in retail income generation.
* Proven leadership experience in a senior retail role in a target
focused sales environment.
* Substantial retail management experience of a successful operation
of multiple outlets
* Strategic planning and financial forecasting
* Delivering growth in retail capacity
* Strong people management experience.
* Experience managing fundraising events, volunteers and
initiatives.
_DESIRABLE:_
* Experience in the Deaf Community.
* Relevant third level qualification.
* Experience working in a charity / not for profit, with basic
understanding of charity law and guidance.
* The successful candidate will work in the Deaf community with an
appreciation and respect for Deaf culture and Irish Sign Language.
_SKILLS:_
* Strong customer focus
* Self-starter with the ability to work on own initiative.
* Excellent communication skills ? both written and verbal.
* Analytic and decision-making abilities.
* Must be a team player and able to work with and through others.
* Ability to influence others and move towards a common vision or
goal.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
* Full driving license with access to a vehicle.
